DES MOINES, IA–Democratic nominee Mike Franken doubled down on his commitment to help end gun violence and released a video inviting Senator Grassley to join him at a gun range. Franken issued the following statement:
“My opponent Chuck Grassley says he doesn’t know much about guns. Hasn’t shot one in ‘40 – 50 years.’
Well, Senator, I spent nearly 40 years in the Military. So let me tell you… firearms like the AR-15 are weapons of war.
If you knew what an assault rifle is capable of, what it does to a body… would you still have blocked a bill for universal background checks a mere two days after another mass shooting?
Would you still be telling donors that you quote ‘will not budge’ on gun legislation?
Come to a gun range with me.
Pull the trigger of an AR-15… Feel its power… See how accurately 30 rounds pass through a target. How fast you can reload another magazine with just a bit of practice.
Then tell me you still think anyone should be able to walk into a gun show and buy one from a private seller, no questions asked.
